PrOatina is a special high protein gluten free hulless oat sp. Avina nuda. The oat is the most nutritious of all cereal grains. As we learn more about nutrition the oat is identified to have more and more important health and nutrition attributes:

  • Oats contain a high percentage of desirable complex carbohydrates, which have been linked to: reduced risk of colon, breast, and prostrate cancer; better management of diabetes; and fewer bowel problems such as constipation.
  • Oats are a good source of total dietary fiber, and the high percentage of soluble fiber present in oats is thought to contribute to lower blood cholesterol levels and decreased risk of heart disease.
  • The edible portion of oats contains one of the highest protein levels of all commonly consumed cereal grains.  In addition to having an overall high protein content, oats contain one of the best amino acid profiles of all grains.
  • Like all cereal grains, oats have a relatively low fat content.  The lipids present in oats contain a good balance of essential fatty acids, and are primarily unsaturated.
  • A higher dietary intake of unsaturated fats relative to overall fat consumption has been linked with longevity and general good health.
  • Oats have a high vitamin B1 (thiamin) content.  Thiamin is required by the body for carbohydrate metabolism.
  • Oats, if they are not contaminated with wheat or wheat related products or barley, rye and triticale, the gluten bearing grains, are "Gluten Free".

There are a two major cereals, rice and corn, that are gluten free however as we learn more about nutrition we find that they are not very nutritious and do not contribute very much other than carbohydrates to the diet of man.

Great Northern Growers has been working with the Celiac Sprue Association USA to introduce PrOatina as the only oat product certified gluten free when the USDA gluten free standard is established. Certified gluten free oat products will demand higher value than certified organic.

PrOatina growers will select clean ground several years away from wheat or barley production which does not have wild oat herbicide residual or serious wild oat or other weed problem. Best agronomic practices combined with extreme care to clean planting, harvesting, transporting and storage equipment as well as hours in the field hand rouging and field inspected to insure a safe wheat free, Elisa tested oat product.
